5 Tips To Create A Life You Love
What a world we live in right now! Between war, politics, environmental concerns and a focus on what divides instead of unites us there is enough to stress out about if you let yourself go there. Today, I share some tips that have helped me navigate these ongoing challenges to stay focused on the positive and create a life I love.
Recognizing What We Can Control
One of the larges challenges that can cast a shadow on hope and positivity is a fear of not having control of what is going on. When we feel we are in control, life seems less scary. Feeling out of control significantly increases our stress levels – impacting mental and physical health.
Recognizing what we can control versus what is out of our control is crucial! This recognition can help our brains focus on what we can do instead of spinning out on what we feel helpless about. It can minimize stress levels and make us feel empowered and in charge. As an example, I have control over whether or not I vote and who I vote for, but beyond that I cannot control what the outcome will be.
Despite not being able to control election outcomes, I can control what happens (or at least my reaction to what happens) in my life, my home and my interactions with others. In a world where it feels like we are often being divided against each other, I can control how I interact with others and can create a feeling of inclusivity in and around me. By focusing on what I can control, I am empowering myself to create my life in the best way I know how. I am keeping my energy for that creation instead of losing it to frustration or worry.
Focusing on the Good
One way I create life in the best way I know how is by focusing on the GOOD! Even when it feels that there may not be much good to focus on, it’s always there. Take a look around you? Is there a color that feels peaceful or joyful? Is there an object or scenery that you find beautiful? Is there a memory of someone you love or that makes you laugh?
Remember, what you focus on expands, so if you only see the bad in every situation, you’ll continue to see more of it everywhere. When you change your focus to look for the good, you will condition yourself to start seeing more good which can bring a sense of hope and optimism in challenging times. The more each of us chooses to see and do good in the world the more we will shift the vibrations in a positive and thriving direction!
Contraction Versus Expansion
When we focus on the negative, we often bring a fear reaction into our body. Our cortisol levels spike as a way to prepare ourselves for the eminent danger that our negative thoughts are bringing about. This fear causes our cells to contract instead of expand. Contraction of our cells can lead to restrictions in our body which can lead to pain.
It’s incredible how our physiological design is structured so perfectly to help us survive and keep us safe when there is a perceived threat, but when we are creating that threat through negative thoughts and worry, then it can create a wrinkle in the system. Our body can be put into overdrive and get taxed out because it is like we are constantly revving the engine of our car without actually going anywhere until we eventually run out of gas.
Instead of contracting in and becoming smaller, we can open up to our own expansion. Our body is meant to be flowing freely with our energy. Our cells are meant to be big and expansive. This helps us to shine our lights more brightly in the world.
So, my question for you is what helps you open up and expand? Is it movement? Is it trying something new? Is it talking with or being with those you love? Is it watching or listening to something that makes you laugh? Whatever it is, take a moment for your own expansion today and see what shifts.
Choosing Love Over Fear
One concept that shifted a lot for me and that has helped me navigate many challenges through the years is that there are really only two types of energy on the planet. Everything can be filtered down into either LOVE or FEAR.
When times get hard, when things don’t go my way, I always remember to choose LOVE. Choosing love helps me stay in an expansive space. When we allow fear to lead us, our body goes into contraction. So ask yourself, what needs to happen here for me to choose love?
Growing the Positive
Another important concept that has had a big impact on my life is that universal energy doesn’t process the word “NOT.” When you want to shift from a fear state to a love state, it is important for your mindset to be “I choose love” as opposed to saying “I do not choose fear.” Choosing a positive framing in all you do and say will grow your experiences to include more of the positive!
So, in these challenging times, please remember that love conquers all and can help you experience a more expansive joy in your life if you choose it. You control what you watch, read, do and say. Choose wisely to support yourself by only consuming things that bring you joy, love, and expansion. Pay attention to the words coming out of your mouth. Are they supportive of love? Sometimes the most loving thing we can do for ourselves is to turn off the TV and social media, put our phones and computers away, and spend time outdoors with ourselves and loved ones. This we can control! This is what creates a life we love!
