Lynn Schulte | Relationships, Service and Purpose: Insight from a US Surgeon General

Show Notes:

In today’s episode, Lynn discusses the future of health based on the parting words from former US Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy.

Based on his research and observations, Dr. Murthy reported that the link to increased pain and failing health in the USA was not due to a lack of medical advancements, but rather to social isolation and loneliness. Dr. Murthy shared how the erosion of community and connection has created a rise not just in mental health issues, but in physical health issues as well. Health is more than just tests and medications or the lack of medications. He reports that to bring true health back we need to rebuild community around relationships, service and purpose. He shares the importance of choosing love over fear and community over money, fame and power. Each person needs to feel seen and this sense of being seen helps buffer against the high levels of stress that cause disease.

We would love to engage in this conversation in a meaningful way and encourage you to share any ideas or thoughts of what you are seeing or doing in your community that is fostering connection and the building of healthy relationships. Together, we can make a positive change.

At the Institute for Birth Healing, one of our goals is to unite birth healing practitioners through this work by creating opportunities for connection and community. We know that when you have support, you are able to thrive and help provide the essential work that can shift and empower mothers and new families. As you continue your education, know that Lynn loves interacting with students at live courses, via email, social media and at conferences. She is here to support you as you support moms, so do feel free to connect in a way that feels meaningful for you.
