I had baby get stuck on my cervical lip (first) and on the pubic bone (second) so would love to feel how to check for this! Do you find any connection between these cervical restrictions and IUD placement? asking bc after giving birth my IUD was misplaced and sitting in my cervix for months and curious if that’s a reason to advise a longer wait time before getting an IUD for patients or if it’s something we could assess before patients go and get an IUD?

    1. Lynn Schulte says:

So much to unpack here Lisa. We can’t really check for a cervical lip prior to birth. The best we can do is balance out the uterine ligaments and get the baby into the best position possible. Baby getting around the pubic bone is all about the sacrum being able to move backward into flexion enough. I personally can’t say I see a correlation between cervical restrictions and IUD placements. However I can say that when there is a cervical issue during birth you can palpate the dysfunction in the cervical tissues after birth. Giving that cervix some attention and love with intention or direct contact of a finger is helpful to rebalance the tissues. Then I’d go get a IUD placed. I understand the convenience of having an IUD placed at the 6 wk checkup but I don’t feel the timing is respectful to the uterus and cervix. Hope this helps.

I’m looking forward to learning tips on how to contact the coccyx on bodies that have more adipose tissue. I’m also looking forward to improving my body mechanics with internal assessments and tricks to avoid hurting myself in the process.

    1. Lynn Schulte says:

Vanessa, Yes let’s focus on your body mechanics as it’s so important to take care of our bodies first! With greater adipose tissue it’s about calling the bone to your hand and not forcing your hands into the tissues. Sink in and it just takes a bit longer to do so. Intending to the bone helps to draw it to your hands too. With practice you will feel it.
