can you please clarify the hand position for correcting the common birth pattern – the video states to find the ILA, but is that where the hand placement goes, or is it higher up/more towards the head? Thank you
Your finger/palm placement is on the lateral edge of the sacrum near the lower third aspect of the sacrum so near the ILA. You need to be able to grip the lateral edge of the sacrum to sheer it back to it’s midline position. Your other hand is stabilizing the pelvis in the opposite direct as the pull on the sacrum. If the sacrum is more to the right then your sacral hand is contacting the lateral edge of the right side of the sacrum mobilizing it to the left while the opposite hand stabilizes the pelvis either at the ilium to the right or the pubic bone (more tender so be careful) to the right. Hope this helps!
I find that often it is difficult to feel the coccyx without going in rectally. Is this normal? Does this mean that the person is stuck in flexion and it needs to be corrected?
If you are having a hard time finding the coccyx externally then it could be flexed inside, you really have to bend your finger down into the tissues to feel it externally. If the person is stuck in flexion the coccyx should be more easier to palpate if it’s not curved in too much. The lower sacrum is more prominent in flexion so the coccyx should be too. It all depends on the shape and curve of the sacrum, everyones is different. Please don’t just treat the coccyx unless you find it has decreased mobility to it. There should be a gentle give to the joint and movement of the coccyx.
