Internal Pelvic Floor

 ONLINE SELF-PACED COURSE

The Missing Link?

Yes, it is the “link” between the pelvic bones and the pelvic floor muscles that is missing.

To achieve the greatest results the pelvic bones need to be engaged before the muscles will respond.

That’s right, internal work must include external work, too!

Increase Your Confidence | Improve Your Skills | Expand Your Knowledge

This course goes beyond the traditional assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor. You all know what I mean… you listen to the client’s complaint, you assess the body, and you proceed with treatment. And, all too often, you achieve marginal improvement. So the client returns over and over again without fully healing. This course will help change that.

This course is intended for professionals licensed to perform internal work.

You will learn how to successfully…

> Decrease the Recovery Time

> Reduce Pain and Discomfort in Fewer Sessions

> Help Women Return to a Fully Functioning Body

What People Are Saying About This Course:

“I have been a PFPT for over 9 years and I ended up finding this introductory course through the healing and birth summit. I have always been a believer in “going back to basics” and having a “refresher” of the anatomy and treatment techniques that are not as advanced as others I use. I like to learn how other therapists go about initial assessments. I was very pleased with this course and think it is a good starting point for new PFPTs or like me, a great refresher and learning experience!”

Laura B

“The internal work with demonstrations for exam and treatment were very helpful!”

Wendy L

“This course was really good. I learned a lot and Lynn was an excellent teacher. Labs were great and the course was well structured. Thank you!”

Mari R

“Explanations are simple. Information is repeated to recap previous lectures. Videos are short making them not tedious.”

Gisela O

MOD 1: Welcome

  • Unit 1: Welcome | 4:20 min
  • Unit 2: Grounding Visualization | 11:28 min
Kick off the course with a grounding meditation that is helpful for centering prior to intravaginal work.

MOD 2: Anatomy of the Vulva

  • Unit 1: Anatomy of the Vulva | 28:24 min
This unit helps you understand the structures of this area and some common ailments that show up in the vulva tissues. You will understand what you need to listen and look for to assist your clients with their complaints. We’ll take a look at important structures that could be causing pain for our clients and offer you some alternative ideas as to what to do.

MOD 3: Anatomy and Physiology PFM

  • Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology of Pelvic Floor Muscles | 35:22 min
In this unit we cover everything you need to know about the pelvic floor muscles.  From their innervation, to function, how to grade strength and understand the different layers of the pelvic floor muscles so you can assess them correctly.  To be successful doing intravaginal work your knowledge of anatomy is imperative so you know where you are without visualizing the tissues.

MOD 4: Internal Work – My Philosophy

  • Unit 1: My Philosophy | 43:23 min

In this unit we discuss the cultural influences on people’s connection to their pelvis, how to work with the sacredness of this space, how to determine if your client is fully on board for internal work by learning to listen to the body for the yes. I also share my number one rule that has helped me get better results with my clients. This unit is the key to successful intravaginal work.

  • Unit 2: Blocked Energy Flow Treatment Session | 40:13 min

In this unit observe 3 different ways you can assess if there is a blockage in your client’s ability to connect into their pelvic space. Watch as I treat a client with this issue and see how her trauma and shifting a limiting belief (subjects taught in the Advanced Postpartum Course) help to release the blockage.

MOD 5: Energy Of Hands

  • Unit 1: Energy of Hands | 3:39 min
This unit introduces you to the concept of energy and how to feel it in your hands. As you practice this more you can begin to start to feel the energy in the body which you can use to help guide your sessions.

MOD 6: Set Up for Internal Work

  • Unit 1: Set Up for Internal Work | 15:13 min
Understand all the different ways to prepare your clients, position yourself and a respectful way to enter into the vaginal space so your clients always know where your hands are when doing internal work.

MOD 7: Internal Assessment

  • Unit 1: Internal Assessment | 17:49 min

You will learn 2 approaches to doing intravaginal work, an assessment protocol, how to orient internally and how to assess in standing for prolapse.

  • Unit 2: External Landmarks and Contractions | 6:32 min

In this unit see what to look for externally with the tissues to know where you want to aim with your finger for insertion. Also, learn the 2 motions you want to identify when someone does a pelvic floor contraction to determine if the pelvic floor muscles are working well or not.

  • Unit 3: Vulvar Assessment | 8:11 min

What is the vulva and how do we assess it? This unit gives you clarity on this area and the important structures that need to be assessed if someone is having problems in this area.

  • Unit 4: Insertion and Evaluation | 14:44 min

While there are many different ways to insert your finger into the vagina, this unit shows you a very respectful approach that allows your client to always know where your hand is at all times so they never have any surprises. Watch how my hand never breaks contact with the skin and how you can insert your finger with just one hand.

MOD 8: Treatment of the PFM’s

  • Unit 1: Treatment of the Pelvic Floor Muscles | 38:31 min

In this unit you will learn the missing link to getting better releases of the pelvic floor muscles by using the pelvic bones both internally and externally. As forcing the muscles to release is not encouraged, I covered ideas and steps to try if the muscles are not releasing. Plus you will learn how to assess and treat the external anal sphincter which is so important for your clients dealing with hemorrhoids and fissures or if you just need to get a stronger pelvic floor muscle contraction.

  • Unit 2: External Pelvic Floor Muscle Release | 9:59 min

Sometimes internal work is too painful or the body is saying no, so we need to be able to address the pelvic floor muscles externally. In this unit I will show you how to use the pelvic bones to assist in getting the pelvic floor muscles to release. It’s super important for you to understand the concept of what you need to do so you can apply it to your patients in whatever way works for your hands and the body you are working on.

  • Unit 3: Treating Pelvic Floor Muscles | 4:20 min

In this unit you will use the pelvic bones to help facilitate a release of the pelvic floor muscles. You need to make sure your external hand is approaching the pelvis at a 45 degree angle to best contact the pelvic bones. Having a finger on the tight muscle helps you to know when the muscle has released and when you are done.

  • Unit 4: Eval and Treatment of External Anal Sphincter | 8:43 min

It is so important to address the External Anal Sphincter to help with fissures and hemorrhoids and also to get a stronger pelvic floor muscle contraction. Make sure your thumb is at an angle so that it is in complete contact with the muscle. If it is straight up and down you will be missing the lower half of the sphincter muscle. Keep assessing and treating until the muscle is completely released.

  • Unit 5: Pelvic Bowl Sweeping | 5:20 min
